Thirty-three Avionte employees braved the heat wave last week to help build a house through Habitat for Humanity-Twin Cities. Avionte signed up for a weeklong group build project (known as a Habitat workcamp) and worked to lay down the ground floor, secure the first floor walls and more! Multiple employees went to the site each day and used their Hope days to volunteer.
On day one, our group got busy cutting boards and laying down the ground floors. Our second group went out on Tuesday to finish the side walls and to get started with putting the ceiling in place. Wednesday was a challenging day for volunteers, who worked to move the beams in place that would separate the first floor from the second floor and would hold all things in place. On Thursday, our Avionte employees finished laying down the second floor beams, built stairs and did lots and lots of hammering! And on day five, we were able to get most of the second floor in place.
We were told that a typical Habitat for Humanity house takes eight to 10 weeks to build. Our group got the house started in week one and we’re looking forward to seeing how the house comes together as the weeks progress.
The weeklong build was definitely hard work, but we had so much fun out there and I know many of our employees will be back to do future build projects with Habitat for Humanity.To see photos from our week on the build site, located in St. Paul, Minn., go to our Facebook page.
